Designing around TikTok interface areas
TikTok places a vertical action rail near the right edge and caption, account and audio information across the lower portion of the video. Search and navigation elements can also reduce comfortable space near the top and bottom, so a design that fills the entire 9:16 canvas may feel crowded after publishing.
These percentages describe the conservative overlay used by Display Lab, not a permanent platform specification. Interfaces can change by app version, device and account context.
Practical review checklist
- Keep essential text away from the right-side action rail.
- Leave room below captions, prices and calls to action.
- Check faces and product details at normal phone size.
- Preview the clean export again inside TikTok before publishing.
Design tip
If a headline must sit low in the frame, shorten it or move it into a compact text panel rather than relying on a narrow gap between caption and navigation areas.
