Understand Resolution, Aspect Ratio and Pixel Density

Resolution tells you how many pixels a display contains, while physical size determines how tightly those pixels are packed. Two screens can share the same resolution but look noticeably different because their diagonal measurements and pixel densities are not the same.

Enter the pixel width, pixel height and diagonal size of a display. Display Lab calculates the simplified aspect ratio, decimal ratio, total megapixels and approximate pixels per inch (PPI). Presets provide quick starting points for common resolutions, and the visualizer makes the frame proportions easier to compare.

Use these results when choosing a monitor, preparing screenshots, matching media to a screen shape or explaining why an image appears sharper on one device than another. PPI describes pixel density; it does not by itself measure panel quality, viewing distance, color accuracy or print resolution.
